Multiplicity

It has always been a struggle to merge the different parts of my life. I was the kind of person who didn’t want my friend groups to meet. Plus I moved around a lot with my family so I got to reinvent myself every couple of years.

So far I have not had to confront this tendency of mine. But now, as I begin the HackerYou 2016 Winter Bootcamp, I am finding it necessary to come clean to the internet and, therefore, all of my separate communities about what I am.

Because, although I thought about it, there cannot be separate accounts for a Suzette McCanny who makes websites and a Suzette McCanny who writes, directs and edits short films and web series, and a Suzette McCanny who has been an actress in Toronto for many years.

It must be declared.  It is the first thing the twitter account asks for. The all important sub heading to your name.

So here it goes. I am an actor, I am a filmmaker, I am an artist, I am a web developer. I am excited to meet you. I cannot be summed up simply by the answer to the question, “What do you do?” And I am sure you cannot be so simply summed up either.  I look forward to getting to know you in all our multiplicity.
